Hold For Discussion
Curatorial Statement
Hold For Discussion is an exhibition elevating the work of performance artists from around the world, including the US, Canada, Panama, Peru, and Germany.
In C. Carr’s On Edge: Performance at the End of the Twentieth Century, the author recounts events that occurred in the late 80’s and early 90’s relating to the National Endowment for the Arts and attacks against Art and Artists from politicians.
“Beginning of May 1990: A White House political appointee goes through all the grantees in Solo Performance and writes HFD (Hold for Discussion) after the names of Karen Finley, Holly Hughes, Tim Miller, and Rachel Rosenthal.”
Almost 2 months later, the Endowment announced they defunded artists who became known as The NEA Four even though “all of them had been unanimously recommended for funding by the Solo Performance peer panel.”
Performance is a discipline that continues to push boundaries and break barriers with a disgustingly delicious force and this exhibition serves as a beautiful testament to that.

“I noticed a relationship between the works that I was most drawn to throughout the review process - the body as the curious catalyst amongst and with objects and objectivity.
